Commercial Fleet Insurance in Minnesota

Managing a fleet means managing exposure across every vehicle, every driver, and every route — and the difference between insuring vehicles individually versus under a fleet program can be significant. As an independent agency, we access fleet-rated markets that reward well-managed operations with better pricing than you'd get going vehicle by vehicle.

What's Covered

Coverage details — and what to ask about.

Commercial Auto Liability

Covers bodily injury and property damage caused by your drivers while operating fleet vehicles. Required by law — limits depend on vehicle type, use, and whether you're regulated by the FMCSA.

Physical Damage — Collision & Comprehensive

Covers repair or replacement of fleet vehicles after accidents, theft, fire, or weather events. Can be structured with per-vehicle limits or blanket stated-value coverage across your fleet.

Motor Truck Cargo

If your fleet hauls freight, cargo coverage protects the goods in transit against loss or damage while in your custody. Required by most shippers and freight brokers.

Hired & Non-Owned Auto

Covers vehicles your drivers rent or borrow for business purposes, and personal vehicles used by employees for company business. A common gap that fleet programs often overlook.

Umbrella / Excess Liability

Provides additional liability limits above your base commercial auto policy. Critical for fleets where a single serious accident can exhaust your primary limits — particularly for heavier vehicles or high-mileage operations.

Driver Management & Telematics

Many carriers offer premium credits for documented driver training programs and telematics monitoring. We help you identify carriers who reward the management practices you already have in place.

Why Dayton Insurance

What you get with an independent agency.

We're not tied to one carrier's products. We shop across multiple companies to find the right fit — and stay with you through every renewal.

Trucking-Specialty Markets

Not every carrier writes trucking well. We work with specialty markets that understand commercial transportation — and price it accurately based on your commodity, radius, and record.

Multiple Carriers

We compare across multiple A-rated trucking carriers so your quote reflects real market competition, not a single company's rate.

FMCSA Filing Expertise

We handle Form E and Form H filings, MCS-90 endorsements, and other DOT compliance requirements so you can focus on keeping your wheels turning.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

How many vehicles do I need to qualify for fleet pricing?

Most carriers consider 3–5 vehicles a fleet and begin offering fleet-rated discounts. The more vehicles in your fleet, the better your per-unit rate — and the more negotiating leverage we have with carriers.

Can I add or remove vehicles mid-policy?

Yes. Fleet policies are designed to flex with your operation. Adding a new vehicle or removing a sold one is handled with a simple endorsement, and your premium adjusts pro-rata.

What if some of my drivers have poor driving records?

Some carriers will exclude specific high-risk drivers while still covering your fleet. Others use driver history to set fleet-wide rates. We'll help you find programs that work for your specific driver roster.

Do delivery vans and semi-trucks need different policies?

Yes — light commercial vehicles (cargo vans, pickups, box trucks) and heavy trucks (Class 7/8 semis) are rated differently and are often placed with different specialty carriers. We can manage both under a coordinated program.
